Stand against irrational tyrants in Montana pays off.

For those who missed the recent news, it seems that the city government of Bozemen, Montana demanded, as part of their application process, the login information for all applicants’ social networking sites. Now, I am endeavoring to keep from being too political here, but this was an indefensible move that had no basis in anything other than power-mongering over those the city government would intend to indoctrinate as non-dissenting minions.

Fortunately, as Ars Technica recently reported, it took about a week for public outcry (and not just locally, this became online news immediately) to get this policy rescinded. Here’s hoping everyone in the city government involved in instituting this is crushed and annihilated from the remotest fringes of power in the city’s next election. It took a good, what, eight years? But perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for personal freedom after all.

Incidentally, this is not about political parties or partisan values or any such; like I said, I don’t want to be overtly political, because I have no faith in the entirety of the political structure, including the “party” system. This isn’t about Republicans or Democrats; this is about a government taking a proactively antagonistic stance against those who wish to get involved in the process, creating a situation where in one way or another they can maintain a level of status quo. And for that, the lot deserves to have an onslaught stand against them.
